A Wedding Photography Tips post could easily list a thousand suggestions, but instead of the obvious advice like 'don’t have a hangover on your wedding day,' I’ll focus on a few valuable tips you might not have thought of.
Where You Get Ready Matters
Where you get ready really does make a difference. If your wedding preparations are being captured, it’s important to choose a location that lends itself to beautiful photography and videography. Whether it’s a hotel, your home, or a venue bridal suite (many in Syracuse and Central New York have gorgeous options!), this is the space you’ll see forever in your wedding photos and video. The top three criteria:
A spacious area.
A clutter-free space.
Windows with plenty of natural light—the more, the better!
Look at Your Fiancé
As you begin your walk down the aisle, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. All eyes are on you, and so are the cameras. Resist the urge to look down, and resist the temptation to glance at us (your photographers and videographers). Instead, make eye contact with your fiancé. Of course, take a moment to look around at your guests, or at your father or mother walking you down—it’s a big moment for them too. But when in doubt, lock eyes with your fiancé and smile. This is the moment you’ve been waiting for.
Stop for a Kiss After you’ve been officially introduced as husband and wife, everyone will be cheering as you walk back up the aisle together. Take your time, and halfway back, stop for a kiss. Even if you’ve already kissed, this one feels spontaneous, joyful, and surrounded by your loved ones. It makes for one of the best candid photo and video moments of the day—and it’s one Syracuse couples always love seeing in their final gallery and film.
Don’t Chew Gum It may seem obvious, but don’t chew gum during your ceremony. There’s no way to edit it out of video, and it’s distracting in photos. Save it for after.
Plan Your Exit The end of the night is just as important as the beginning. Whether you’re doing a sparkler send-off, a bubble exit, or simply walking out hand-in-hand, make it intentional. These final moments are some of the most emotional and photogenic parts of a wedding day, and they look incredible on both photo and video. If you’re getting married in Syracuse, many venues have perfect outdoor spots for a dramatic exit, so talk with your photographer and videographer ahead of time to plan it out.
I hope these Tips for wedding photos and videos were helpful.
