Carly & Fred’s Springtime Engagement at Green Lakes

There is something truly magical (albeit frustrating for planning) about the way Central New York weather keeps us on our toes. The forecast for Carly and Fred’s engagement session at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville, NY predicted an overcast sky. However, as we began our walk around the emerald waters, the sun decided to make several guest appearances.

The light was great—alternating between bright, golden peaks and soft, gentle diffusion from the passing clouds. It provided the perfect backdrop for a session that was as much about storytelling as it was about photography. I enjoy shooting at Green Lakes- it's not too far from home and it makes for a romantic backdrop.

From Buffalo Delis to New Beginnings

One of the best parts of an engagement session is the chance to truly connect. As we explored the park trails, I learned all about how these two started. Their story traces back to their college days in Buffalo, where they met while working together at a deli.

Fast forward to today: Carly has officially finished dental school, and the couple is preparing to start their next chapter together in Rochester. Meeting for an engagement Photo Session right in Syracuse was perfect. Seeing their excitement for this transition while they laughed through our session made the afternoon incredibly special.

Embracing the Height Difference

Carly initially shared a few nerves regarding their height difference, as Fred is significantly taller. However, as soon as we started shooting, those concerns vanished. We used the natural terrain of the park to our advantage to level things out when needed, and Fred was more than happy to "lean into" the difference—literally!

The result was a series of photos that felt authentic, playful, and perfectly "them." Sometimes the things we worry about most in front of the camera end up being the details that bring out the most personality in the frames.

Looking Ahead to Skaneateles

This session was the perfect "warm-up" for what is sure to be a stunning wedding this coming October. We will be heading to the Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles, New York.

The Sherwood Inn is one of my absolute favorite venues; having worked many weddings there, I know its historic charm will be the perfect setting for Carly and Fred to say "I do." If their engagement session was any indication, their big day is going to be filled with laughter, great light, and a whole lot of love.
